Byron’s Picks
Weather ~ Jenny Offill (Release Date February 11, 2020)
I just read Jenny Offill’s Dept of Speculation. I loved it. Weather is written in the same fragmented, brilliant style as Dept of Speculation, and I can’t wait to read it. I’ve already ordered it!
Ardis’s Picks
The Lost Book of Adana Moreau ~ Michael Zapata (Release Date February 4, 2020)
Right away when I saw this book I got feelings of Carlos Ruiz Zafon’s “Cemetery of Forgotten Books” series and Theodora Goss’s “Athena Club” series, both absolute favorites of mine. This stunning story of a young Dominican immigrant’s lost (and found) science fiction manuscript is sure to delight.
The Gravity of Us ~ Phil Stamper (Release Date February 4, 2020)
This promising debut is serving up absolutely classic young adult themes of a first love, self-discovery, insecurity, and life online. Our young protagonist is left to navigate life (and love) while his dad goes off on a highly publicized NASA mission – to Mars! This story is ringing all my bells, and I am really looking forward to it.
In the Land of Men ~ Adrienne Miller (Release Date February 11, 2020)
Lauded as a “fiercely personal memoir” covering her career in the male-dominated literary world, this book from Adrienne Miller should be entertaining, challenging, and uplifting. Miller’s career has been truly unique, both because of the time in which she wrote and because of the people she was privileged enough to work with, including the incomparable David Foster Wallace.
The Hidden Girl ~ Ken Liu (Release Date February 25, 2020)
It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Ken Liu. His last collection received honorable mention in Ardis’s Top 15 Books of the Decade, and I’m breathlessly awaiting this next collection of SFF short stories from such an accomplished and inspiring author as Liu.
